NASSAU, The Bahamas – This October, in celebration of Older Persons Month, RF Bank & Trust (RF) made a generous donation to the Mary Ingraham Care Centre (MICC), reaffirming its deep respect and appreciation for the generational leaders who have shaped Bahamian society. The contribution—which is part of RF’s yearlong community impact campaign—will be used to secure new mattresses, dressers, and other essential furniture items, significantly improving the quality of life of the elderly women who call the Centre home.

“We really appreciate this kind gesture from RF Bank & Trust,” said Patrika Hanna, Supervisor at MICC. “It really touches our hearts to receive this help; our eldest resident is just about to celebrate her ninetieth birthday and so it could not have come at a better time.”

The donation reflects RF’s enduring commitment to promoting Bahamian wellbeing and honouring the impact of older persons, many of whom have spent their lives in service to family, community, and nation. By investing in their comfort and dignity, RF sends a powerful message: that Bahamian elders deserve more than just our gratitude—they merit our attention, our time, and, most importantly, our care.

“Older Persons Month is a time to celebrate those generational leaders who have impacted individual lives, as well as Bahamian life more broadly,” said Ethan Knowles, Regional Communications Supervisor at RF. “For us, it’s an honour to support the Mary Ingraham Care Centre in its mission to provide a safe, nurturing environment for elderly women.”

Knowles also noted that the donation serves as a gesture of gratitude from RF Bank & Trust to the social workers and care providers who look after our elders.

“We truly admire the compassion, and the degree of care, that professionals like Ms. Hanna and Ms. Rolle provide,” Knowles said. “It is our hope that this gift might lighten, if only in a small way, the load of bearing such a tremendous responsibility.”

The Minister of Social Services, Information and Broadcasting, the Honourable Myles LaRoda, expressed his deep appreciation to RF Bank & Trust for its kind gesture. He indicated how valuable public/private partnership is and stressed its importance, noting that:

“When corporate Bahamas works hand-in-hand with Government, the results are always positive because the community benefits. We see a clear demonstration of this today.”

The Mary Ingraham Care Centre has been co-managed by the Ministry and the Inter-American Division of Seventh-day Adventists since 1999, providing 24-hour residential care services to elderly women. It is named in honour of Mary Naomi Ingraham, a noted Bahamian businesswoman, social activist, and founding president the Bahamas Women’s Suffrage Movement, who was instrumental in securing women’s right to vote in 1961.

The Centre welcomes further expressions of support from the public, including non-monetary donations of time to support crucial programming, such as reading sessions, hair-plaiting, nail painting, and other group recreational activities.
